"I just got a call from a delivery service telling me that they don't know how they are going to deliever our 8x7x4 foot fiberglass giraffe," Aimee wrote on Facebook. "Now, I can honestly say, this is a problem that I never thought I would have."
And Sally arrives ... she was well wrapped in her box, suspended inside with styrofoam and plenty of wrapping. She did arrive safe and sound, and she is happily adjusting to her new home. She spent a few weeks in the garage, and she has moved to the basement so she can stay out of our Wisconsin winter. So far, she's been a great housemate. She's rather quiet, but she definitely has a presence.
Welcome to the creation of Long Tall Sally, an 8-foot, three-dimensional giraffe who will be mosaicked over the winter. Once completed, Sally will be on display at Vilas Zoo in Madison, WI, during Summer 2010 for the Zoobilee fundraiser that will benefit Vilas Zoo and the UW Childrens Hospital.
Follow us as we bring Sally to life. Artists Tom Linfield, Aimee Reid Rice, and Dana Slowiak will mosaic Sally, with glass donated courtesy of The Vinery. We will provide updates and photos of our process and progress over the coming months.
